Pel Reunion Annual Fund Drive
Below is a message from Chris Harrington, the Pel Reunion Annual Fund representative.
Subject: Pel Reunion Annual Fund Drive
Dear Fellow Pel Reunion Conferees:
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and to discuss an issue of some importance to the Island. My name is Christopher M. Harrington and I have been asked to chair the fund raising efforts for this year’s Pel Reunion Annual Fund drive.
This year, we are trying to get most of our fund raising efforts completed before we get to the Island so that you will hear less from me and will have more time to enjoy the Island. I have already made my annual contribution and ask that you also consider making an early donation.
Even though we are living in difficult financial times, the Island has more expenses than ever. It will cost Star Island over $3.0 million to operate this year. Room and Board charges only cover about 70% to 75% of the Island’s budget and the rest comes from other sources including the Annual Fund Drive. Over the past two years, overall contributions to the Annual Fund have decreased by about $150,000. Contributions made during Pel Reunion have also decreased significantly. Since 2007, contributions during Pel Reunion have dropped by about 40% to 45%.
Right now, the Island needs about $150,000 to make necessary roof repairs to the main building, about $10,000 for improvements to the underworld showers and another $10,000 for new windows and sidings. If you have not already made a contribution, would you please consider making one now so that we can continue to enjoy the Island for years to come. If you have already made a contribution, thank you and please consider making another contribution if you can.
Very truly yours,
Christopher M. Harrington
